Reverdia enables innovative bio-based materials with Biosuccinium®
Announced in 2010, Reverdia is the joint venture of two global leaders in innovation: Royal DSM and Roquette Frères. The company was created for the production, commercialisation and market development of sustainable bio-succinic acid.
Biosuccinium® is a leading bio-based chemical building block which offers the chemical industry a real alternative to various oil-based di-acids. Based on a patented fermentation technology with a best-in-class environmental footprint, Reverdia’s bio-succinic acid has a broad range of applications, from packaging to footwear as well as cosmetics.
In 2012, Reverdia began operating the world’s first dedicated, large-scale plant for succinic acid production from renewable resources in Cassano, Spinola, Italy. The 10,000 tonnes/year plant was the first commercial facility of its kind to use low-pH yeast technology. Since those early days, Reverdia has surpassed its planned technical milestones, growing from a biotechnology start-up to a co-development powerhouse.
Reverdia targets long-term client partnerships to develop the biomaterials market. It is a lead partner in value chain innovation projects, backed by its experienced parent companies.
